The teenage years are full of changes and development. As teenagers enter adulthood, the stressors they face about their future and launching from home often can leave them feeling depressed, anxious, stressed, and lonely. Many teens also struggle with self-harm and suicidal thinking. Friendships and finding a sense of belonging are challenging. Family dynamics often shift during the teenage years and communicating with their parents can often become more difficult.
I have found counseling can provide a safe space for teens to voice their struggles and gain valuable tools that can help them regulate their emotions, tolerate difficulty, and engage in healthy communication. When I work with teens, my hope is to work cooperatively with their parents to address the teen's and parent's concerns. At times, I also meet individually with parents to provide them with support and help brainstorm ideas for helping their struggling teen at home.
If you have a teenage that is struggling, please reach out, I would be honored to work with you to see your child thrive.
I often utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help my clients identify thoughts, assumptions, or beliefs that may be contributing to their distress. I work cooperatively with my clients to modify thought patterns that may be causing harm while also providing tools and resources to reduce the impact of anxiety, stress, or depression on their everyday life. I have found CBT to be especially helpful for teens who often get stuck in all-or-nothing thinking or can quickly go from one extreme to another.
